Introduction:
East China Fair, or ECF for short, is the largest regional trade fair organized in China which features traders from across the world and also has the highest turnover. It is held annually in March in Shanghai. It is supported by the Ministry of Commerce and is co-organized by nine provinces and cities including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shandong, Nanjing and Ningbo. Since 1991, the East China Fair has been successfully held for 31 sessions. The 31st East China Fair, which was held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, had an exhibition area of 105, 200 square meters and 5, 234 booths. It consisted of four professional sub-exhibitions: Garments, Textiles, Home Products and Gifts, as well as two dedicated exhibition areas: Overseas Products and Cross-border E-commerce. This year’s edition attracted 3, 299 companies, including 234 overseas companies, and over 35, 000 merchants from 119 countries and regions, with turnover amounting to $2.18 billion. The opening ceremony of the 31st East China Fair was held under the theme of “Development of Foreign Trade and New Patterns”. Zhang Xiong, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai municipal government, and Xiao Lu, deputy director of the foreign trade department at the Ministry of Commerce, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Zhou Hanmin, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice-chairman of the 13th Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, delivered a keynote speech on Digital Transformation and the Development of Foreign Trade. During the opening ceremony, the East China Fair Production Innovation Award was presented to 34 participating companies from 11 trade delegations. Additionally, the Cross-border E-commerce Summit Forum featured experts who provided suggestions for the development of cross-border e-commerce. The 31st East China Fair had a dedicated procurement matchmaking area, which featured both offline negotiations and a newly added online communication platform. This addition further facilitated online negotiations and complemented the conventional offline negotiations. Throughout the fair, a total of six procurement matching meetings were held, involving 900 rounds of negotiations, with four face-to-face meetings and two screen-to-screen online meetings.
