CMEF--Asia Pacific’s biggest exhibition serving the entire value chain for the medical devices market CMEF is not only the largest medical device show in China, but also in Asia. Taking place biannually in spring and autumn, the event showcases the widest collection of international and local manufacturers of medical devices for hospitals. It is the only event that is fully representative of the China medical devices manufacturing market. The sentiment among the exhibitor is best captured by Mr Jack Johnston, the Export Sales Manager of Salzmann Medico in Switzerland who said, “We came to find agents in China, and were very successful in covering the entire country. The quality of the visitors was very high, and we can certainly recommend the (CMEF) show to any company wanting to enter the Chinese market.” It was very evident that CMEF and ICMD have effectively helped its international and local customers discover new business opportunities. Many of the overseas exhibitors have a better understanding of the vast potential in China and its surrounding markets. One member from the US pavilion, Mr. Anthony Leembruggen, of G&L Precision Die Cutting, Inc., was very delighted with the outcome and said, “Exhibiting in CMEF & ICMD has been a great experience. We have been educated on the China market and fully understand the potential and importance of being here”. Another participant came from US pavilions, Russ Schweizer, Executive Director of Magnalift, echoed, “CMEF has been a great success! We are looking forward to exhibiting in the autumn event in Zhengzhou.” To further enhance the international promotion and service quality offered, Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions has invested heavily in promoting the event to the global market and upgrading on-site services for overseas visitors. Some of the key activities include distributing over 150,000 flyers to the global industry, personalized badges for exhibitors and visitors, VIP lounges, information desks, city guides for overseas exhibitors and visitors, networking receptions for new exhibitors, bilingual signs, interpreter services and shuttle buses pick-up points at 42 various locations across the city. There were also many learning opportunities provided through the various technical seminars and forum sessions. More than 20 technical seminars had been organized to provide a tripartite platform for the exchange of technology knowledge among the local government officials, professionals and industry experts. More than 410 visitors attended the 2 key sessions namely, “Digital Medical & Healthcare Information Technology Forum 2006” and “Standards of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) on Medical Electric Devices and the Basic of Design for Compliance”. The two key sessions attracted a profile of 23 local and international speakers. Summarising the overall success of the event, Ms Hu Kun Ping, Vice President of Reed Sinopharm Exhibitions, offered “We are delighted that CMEF and especially ICMD have grown significantly from the last event. The total number of exhibitors and overseas participants grew by 24% and 118% respectively. The overseas’ visitors and number of countries of visitors also increased by 130% and 165% respectively. We are very encouraged to see that the internationalization programme have borne fruit and will continue to invest in this areas to bring even more overseas exhibitors and visitors to our event so as to deliver business opportunities for the rapidly growing Chinese and wider Asia market. These efforts will continue to benefit local manufacturers and distributors and provide more opportunities for local companies to co-operate and collaborate with international companies in the technology-hungry Asia Pacific market.” Based on the very successful CMEF & ICMD outcome, many companies from the international pavilions have already started planning for the next CMEF & ICMD, scheduled to take place from 31 October to 3 November 2006 in Zhengzhou with an over 80,000 m2 of exhibition space. Zhengzhou was specially selected to host the next presentation of CMEF and ICMD because of its excellent infrastructure and strategic location in Central China. It is one of the most important transportation hubs in China thus offering itself as the gateway to all over the China and the rest of the world.
