Teruyuki Tojo, General Affairs Manager of 7 & i Holdings shares details of its eco-friendly activities and PET bottle collection system at CMT’s 2nd JPET Summit in Tokyo. The Japanese retailer promotes green packaging materials – recyclable trays and bioplastic PET containers across its stores. It has automatic PET bottle recovery machines across Ito-Yokado, York Benimaru, and York-Mart.

Also, presenting at the March 16-17 summit is two of Japan’s leading rPET market players:

1.Eiji Togashi, Head of Environmental Division, FP Corporation on Mechanical PET Bottle-to-Tray and Tray-to-Tray Recycling. FP Corporation is one of the pioneers in recycling food trays as well as PET bottle to trays in Japan. It has an elaborate network of collection points, sorting plants, recycling facilities and distribution centers across the country. More information on their mechanical recycling PET plant in Gifu prefecture and business overview from the recycler

2.Naoshi Yamabe, Director of Tomra Japan on its Reverse Vending Machines (RVM) for recycling plastic bottles & beverage containers. Tomra RVMs are placed across Japan’s supermarkets and other convenient places, where consumers can discard used bottles for automatic selection and separation to achieve waste reduction. RVMs are designed to build a stable bottle-recycling system both on economic and environmental fronts by making the remainder of the recycling process – transportation of recollected bottles and their reuse – more efficient. The Director presents a successful case study of bottle collection at Japan’s retailer – 7 & i.
