Introduction:
The Energy Council brings its Gas to Power series to the Asia Pacific region following it's great success in Africa over the last 3 years.
With Asia's gas demand set to continue to grow, outside of the established gas buying countries of China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan (with India's demand growing rapidly) uptake in gas demand for power projects has been relatively slow.
While on the face of it GTP should have a strong future in both traditional and small-scale power production, a number of factors are impeding its uptake, not least cost vs coal and the fall in legacy gas production.
The Energy Council's Gas to Power APAC Congress will examine the opportunity that exists for gas to power in the region, moving beyond the LNG supply topic and examine government strategy, risk allocation, technology and the power producers/utilities' perspectives.
