EGAT predicts a surge in electricity use in 2016 Pushes forward with energy saving innovations

Date: Mar 18,2016

EGAT predicts that the use of electricity in 2016 will rise by more than 3.5%, the main reason for pushing ahead with the organization of LED Expo & Thailand Energy Saving Week.
This week will put the spotlight on the greatest and most complete range of energy saving innovation and will drive the use of electrical appliances, with No. 5 energy saving seal as well as other LED technology, which will help the world save electricity of over 50%.
Mr. Soonchai Kumnoonsate, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) revealed that due to the decreasing oil prices, it is predicted that the use of electricity will increase by 3.5% in 2016 as the economy. This is also in line with Thailand’s Power Development Plan (PDP 2015) that projected this increase in demand for electricity. The peak demand for 2016 is being estimated at 29,000 megawatts.
For this reason, EGAT continues to promote measures to increase the efficiency of energy usage, drive the capabilities of new innovations that lead to energy conservation, as well as encourage Thai people to turn to using electrical appliances with the No. 5 energy saving seal. In addition, EGAT continues to campaign for producers and importers to attach the No. 5 energy saving seal to all 4 types of LED bulbs: the MR 16, PAR 30 and PAR 38, Bulb E 27 and Tube T8. These bulbs can save over 50% more electricity than traditional light bulbs. This year, EGAT will also promote the use of two other types of LED bulbs, namely Highbay and Lowbay bulbs, which are to be used in hotels, airports, industrial factories and so on.
EGAT is also supporting the organization of the LED Expo & Thailand Energy Saving Week 2016, which will take place between 19th - 22nd April. This event will showcase the greatest and most complete range of energy saving innovations in ASEAN.
Experience first hand energy saving appliances and technologies, such as airconditioning and cooling units, industrial cooling units, high quality motors, circuit breakers, lifts and escalators, LED products and technologies, brought to you by a wide range of business operators and companies, joining the event.
A special seminar – the Thailand LED & Energy Saving Summit – is also included in the event’s programme. This seminar aims to inform participants about energy saving technology, LED products ans electronic equipment, organized into a variety of interesting sessions, such as the measures to support business operations and industries under the ESCO (Energy Service Company) framework. This framework will open up the opportunity for the private sector to interact with energy service companies that offer complete support and services to energy conservation and alternative energy, including consultation. Other interesting topics include:
• Energy Trends in 2016-2017 and how the economic sector must adapt
• Thailand’s 20 year Energy Conservation Plan and the measures to support business operators in the short term and long term
• The advantages of investing in the use of high quality energy saving appliances
• Policies to support LED use in Bangkok and its vicinity
And much more…
The event also includes the “Old Exchange New” campaign, encouraging consumers to use more LED bulbs, by giving out for free 2.000 5 watt, new label “No. 5” LED bulbs (500 bulbs per day) throughout the 4 days of the LED Expo & Thailand Energy Saving Week 2016. Those interested should “like” the LED Expo Thailand Facebook page and bring an old light bulb to exchange for the new one, as well as show their electricity bill for March 2016. Exchanges are limited to 1 bulb per household.

“Today, energy conservation is a consistent high priority interest around the world. This is also true for Thailand, which continues to develop many initiatives in line with this interest. The public sector pushes forward the campaign to get every sector to save energy in a tangible way, especially by using energy saving technology and LED products, which has the potential for further and continued growht in the foreseeable future”, Mr. Soonchai added.
