  • The word System became first known to fenestration professionals in the year of 2000 when Schüco came into the Chinese market. But what are global trends in windows and doors systems? How is windows and doors system research and development done? How should the production of system windows and doors be managed properly? How should enterprises prepare well in technology development and design? Neither these questions, nor the gap between China and overseas companies, was taken seriously by Chinese fenestration companies in the last decade. People were busy completing construction or meeting deadlines, while the quality of windows and doors went unheeded by the regulators, house developers or contractors. Now everything has changed! More and more fenestration companies have begun to readapt themselves to market demand, open their in-house laboratories and increase investment on R&D. With more than 200 exhibitors displaying their latest system windows and doors at Fenestration China 2016 from Nov. 9-12, the Chinese system windows and doors industry will usher in her own golden age. The market share of system windows and doors is expected to increase from 0.5% to 30% in the next decade. This will undoubtedly create a multibillion-dollar market! According to the statistics, the newly completed commercial residential buildings in China measure a total windows and doors area of about 1,030 million square meters every year. So far system windows and doors are only accounting for 0.5% of this total. Although the construction industry was experiencing a severe downturn in recent years, the application of system windows and doors in construction projects has been increasing, particularly in economically advanced regions like Eastern China and Northern China and in high-rise apartments as well as in detached houses. “In pursuit of better building quality, system windows and doors have been adopted in all new Landsea (a famous real estate developer) projects and furthermore a set of technology and supplier evaluations system has been set up,” said Shu Jian, Deputy General Manager of Landsea. The year 2015 was a turning point - China saw a first wave of demand for windows and doors replacement . A huge number of windows and doors installed in the1990s are very dilapidated and therefore the replacement demand of the mass market is still booming. Moreover, the well-educated post-1980s and post-1990s are becoming the mainstream consumer population. They have a stronger desire for quality life and a more discerning eye for premium products than any previous generations. For this reason, almost all upmarket fenestration enterprises are going to shift their focus from the project contracting market to the retail market. To name a few, Schüco opened its first technology experience center next to Metro Line 11, Shanghai. Shunda, a China-based windows and doors manufacturer giant, founded a windows and doors museum years ago. A high quality awareness is becoming the predominant consumer habit in wide parts of the Chinese population. As Mr Zhe Liu, the secretary of China Construction Metal Structure Association, said: ”The total amount of China’s existing buildings equals 6 million square meters. Many of them need replacement of its windows, which is generating a huge demand in the windows market .” 3 Unique System Windows and Doors Models The Chinese market is dominated by three typical system windows and doors business models: 1. Independent system suppliers. The majority of them are R&D-oriented enterprises and boast a robust R&D and technical support system, with the abilities to impart a whole set of technologies and management methodologies to window processing enterprises. Representatives: Schüco, YKK 2. Material suppliers evolving into system suppliers. These companies are mainly material suppliers. They develop systems primarily for the purpose of increasing their sales figures of their core products , for example, profile products or hardware. Representatives: ROTO-ROTOi, Giesse-GOS, Shide 3. Windows and doors enterprises evolving into system suppliers. In the past these companies mainly sold assembled windows and doors and now get committed in system R&D. Representatives: Shunda, Milux ,Jiayu , Orvill Technology Gap - Business Opportunity for European Enterprises Taking into account the above mentioned three business models, there are perhaps not more than 100 system fenestration enterprises in China. Can these companies cater the demand of a trillion yuan market? As a matter of fact, there are nearly 40,000 windows and doors processing enterprises in China and most of them are lacking the necessary technical knowhow. The expertise in exporting entire systems undoubtedly means a great opportunity for European enterprises. European windows and doors enterprises will be able to establish brand recognition and step into the market quickly with the help and a trustful partnership with those Chinese standouts. Companies from Germany realized this development many years ago. Therefore 17 German enterprises use the opportunity to exhibit in the “German Pavilion” at Fenestration China 2016 which became the most important platform for them to intensify their market presence and their long term relationship to Chinese partners. On 31st May ,2016, China Federation of System Windows and Doors was established with more than 100 members , and was asked by Ministry of Construction of P.R.C. to draft a Technical Guide of System Windows and Doors as the industry standards. This should ensure a proper development of China’s fenestration market and will improve the quality of home-made windows and doors products. Hu Baosheng, General Manager of Shenyang Ledao, a System windows and doors supplier, said: “The gaps between Chinese System windows and doors and Europe System windows and doors are clearly. In view of the huge untapped market in China, we wish to forge ties with overseas System windows and doors supplier - both in technical R&D and in market expansion.” All in one! -- System windows and doors gathering at Fenestration China, the largest fenestration expo in Asia Fenestration China, Asia’s largest fenestration trade fair held in each November, has become the most important annual event for the fenestration industry. Fenestration China 2016 will be held at China International Exhibition CenterNew Venue, Beijing between 9 and 12 November 2016. International system windows and doors enterprises, including YKK, Aluk, Wicona, Hueck and ROTO, and Chinese system windows and doors players like Joydon, CIVRO, Jiayu, Ledao, Huachang, Weiye, Huajian, will occupy half of the exhibition space and debut with their latest products and innovative sales strategies. Meanwhile, ten thousands of windows processing enterprises will be present to seek technical solutions and more than 4000 sellers from oversea including Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central and Eeastern Europe as well as South America are expected to show up. Ms. Yi Zhang, the director of the organizing committee, Beijing International UnionExpo Co., Ltd, once said in an interview: ”Fenestration China has gone through constant development of 14 years. By gathering technicians and purchasers from real estate, architects and construction fields, FC now serves as an excellent exchange platform with solutions for Windows, Doors, and Curtain Wall systems.
  • Nowadays, “new economy” is always a hot topic of the world. On an executive meeting of the State Council, Premier Li Keqiang re-explained the concept of “new economy”, and highlighted “new energy auto” as a landmark of “new economy”. The meeting also determined the measures of continuing to support new energy auto industry and to promote green development based on structural optimization. Lightweight of Automobiles Drives Large-scale Production of Aluminium Alloy Castings As the development of “new energy auto” is increasingly highlighted, a faster lightweight and energy-conservation development of automobiles has been seen in the world. In recent years, castings of magnesium and aluminium alloys, as the most important factor of lightweight development of automobiles, have achieved rapid development and gradually replace iron and steel castings. According to some statistics, currently, the castings of magnesium and aluminium alloys account for 13% to 19% of the total casting products in big casting-production countries, and the ratio is even up to 30% to 40% in some countries like Italia, while in China it is yet less than 10%. It can be predicted that to cater to the trend of international development, there will be a growing demand on castings of magnesium and aluminium alloys year by year. To meet the demand of lightweight development of automobiles, it is inevitable that the development of castings of magnesium and aluminium alloys will tend to large scale in the future. “Castings Zone” Settings – Aluminum China 2016 Is More Forward-looking It is worth noting that auto application enterprises have been yet able to complete casting processing during purchasing of raw materials generally, so the costs of time and communication are always at a high level. This problem exists in many similar enterprises in their advance purchasing. As today’s biggest aluminium industry platform in China, China International Aluminium Industry Exhibition (“Aluminium China” for short) is extremely forward-looking. In response to the changes of requirements in application industry, Aluminium China 2016 innovates the “Castings Zone”, which breaks through the old exhibition pattern only focusing on materials and technologies, and increases the special platform for downstream casting processing enterprises to show their technologies and carry out cooperation. It also builds a channel between material purchasing and technological processing, enabling purchasers to lock processing enterprises easily. “The previous exhibitions only showcased new materials , technologies and finished products of enterprises, while at this time the “Castings Zone” emerges, which fills in the blank of castings of earlier events, so that enterprises do not need to seek processing enterprises any more after purchasing on the exhibition, really implementing one-stop service from purchasing to processing,” said by the sponsor of the exhibition, who added: “We hope that the “Castings Zone” is not only oriented to purchasers, but also provides more exhibition space for the enterprises specialized in processing to enable them to cooperate proactively instead of passively waiting for orders, and to seek a bigger development space through the platform of aluminium exhibition.” Supply-Demand Balance – Aluminium China Promotes Sustainable Development of the Industry “Wherever there is demand, there is supply. A balance between supply and demand is a necessity for sound and healthy development of the whole industry. The new breakthrough of Aluminium China 2016 lies on that it is an forwarding-looking international exhibition platform, and builds a channel between supply and demand, making producing enterprises and application enterprises to attain sound development,” said by an expert in the industry. “We hope that the exhibition can dig out more industrial development requirements and make its contributions to the development of Chinese aluminium industry,” he added. It is reported that the 12th Aluminium China will be held from July 12 to 14, 2016 at Shanghai International Expo Center, in which the “Castings Zone” will be designed to show the cutting-edge processes and technologies of castings of magnesium and aluminium alloys, and the exhibition will join hands with manufacturers, purchasers and processers to boost the green, healthy and sustainable development of Chinese aluminium industry. • With the rapid development of consumer electronics, with shorter life cycles and less time between upgrades, metal is increasingly replacing plastic as the shell material of choice, reducing costs and providing a lighter, slimmer and more environment friendly alternative. A look at some of the latest mobile phones in 2016 including LG’s curve screen, the Sony Xperia Z6 and HTC X9, along with Chinese brands such as LeTV Max Pro, Huawei Mate 8 and Lenovo K4, they all have one feature in common, a metal shell. Traditionally, metal shells for consumer electronics were made mainly of aluminium-magnesium alloy or stainless steel. However, with complicated processing technologies and high costs, aluminium alloy is now replacing aluminium-magnesium, offering a superior safety record and lower costs. This will be a key focus at the biggest aluminium industry platform in the world in July when Aluminium China in Shanghai will bring together electronics manufacturers and aluminium processing companies to showcase new performance standards, technologies and applications. “With the rise of consumer electronics, we will attract aluminium processing companies and leading suppliers as part of the effort to drive the application of aluminium in the electronics industry,” said Zang Xiaomeng, Senior Project Manager of Reed Exhibitions, the organizers of Aluminium China 2016. “Aluminium China attracts buyers of aluminium in the electronics industry, including shell makers of cellphones, tablets, notebooks and peripherals, as well as producers of AV, digital and other fast consumer electronics. We also host companies from the white goods and electronic component sectors. This event is truly the right place and time for ambitious industry players to gather, negotiate and conduct technical exchange.” Based on an overview of the products on show at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the cost of metal shell models is down to approximately RMB 1,000 (USD 152) - not the steep price of flagship models. Also, aluminum alloy is replacing plastic as a greener, safer alternative and offering a sleeker look and feel that has a popular cosmetic appeal among consumers. Metal is expected to account for 38% of all shell materials in cell phones in 2016 (according to industry report). However, industry experts also warn that the full-scale adoption of metal shells is dependent on the industry overcoming technical challenges. Currently, few Chinese cell phone makers have the solution for product form-factor design and when it comes to punching, and full CNC, an inadequate number of Chinese phone makers have the technical capabilities to meet market demand, resulting in a lack of production capacity. Aluminium China 2016 can help bridge the gap between consumer electronics makers and technology providers. Focus on Southeast Asian Market and Aluminium Material Processing Aluminium China 2016 will feature leading aluminium material processing companies showcasing their strengths. The event will be a platform for companies in the transportation, electronics, packaging and construction industries, as well as other areas, to exchange with aluminium industry practitioners and experts. They will explore customized processing solutions and be matched with suitable high-quality material providers. “We will be launching Southeast Asia Country of Honour Programs, to add international visibility to the aluminium industry within these regions and allow visitors and exhibitors to explore opportunities and find solutions to challenges across Southeast Asia,” added Reed’s Zang Xiaomeng. “I hope Aluminium China 2016 will help expand markets and open up new applications for aluminium products. This will make the event more definitive of the industry, more international and more market-driven.” The 12th Aluminium China event will be held at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Center from 12-14 July. Among several anticipated highlights will be aluminium materials used in electronics and transportation, as well as aluminium application and processing technologies. The event will feature close bilateral collaboration between China and India, as well as nearly 1,000 companies from several dozen countries and regions.
