  • Mr. Chainarong Limpkittisin, Managing Director of Reed Tradex said that Vietnam’s Government targets a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 7.5 percent in 2011, from around 6.7 percent this year. Meanwhile, from Deputy Minister of Industry, Vietnam’s exports are predicted to rise by 10 percent next year from the current figure to reach USD78 billion, driven by rising prices of commodities in the world’s market. Vietnam’s heavy industry, in particular, is seeing a noticeably positive movement as Vietnam-Australia Steel Joint Venture (Vinausteel) has produced up to 2.2 million tons of steel after its 15-year operation in Vietnam. It has also raised the investment and capacity of its steel plant to USD40.02 million and over 200,000 tons of steel per year, from the initial of USD12.7 million and 180,000 tons. Otherwise Vietnam’s June Index of Industrial Production (IIP) hits a record high this year, surging 12.7 per cent against the same period last year, the Ministry of Planning and Investment reported. June was the first month the IIP, was officially used to replace industrial production value that was calculated on the basis of the base year of 1994. With a record high in June, IIP in the first six months of the year increased 9.7 per cent against the same period last year. This increasing rate was higher than that in the same period of the past few years. The rise in the first half of last year was 8 per cent and the figure in 2009 was 4.5 per cent. Based on the old method, the country’s industrial production value in H1 also surged 14.3 per cent against the same period last year to VND418.5 trillion (US$19.9 billion), higher than the Government’s annual 14 per cent target. The emerging position of Vietnam as the destination of choice for global manufacturers of cars, electric and electronics, and industrial parts is undeniable. The potential is limitless. METALEX Vietnam 2011 is glad to help drive this growth further through the platform of trade exposition where thousand of sellers and buyers get to conduct face-to-face meeting to secure mutually lucrative deals. This year, we have already been confirmed of participation from China Pavilion, Korea Pavilion, Singapore Pavilion and Taiwan Pavilion, so make sure you do not miss this gathering of international technologies!! For Electronic Industry in Vietnam, Enterprises in Vietnam believe the electronics market has a lot of room to grow. Recently, the Commerce Center under the Ministry of Industry and Trade disclosed that import spending on electronics and information technology (IT) products exceeded US$5 billion in 2010, up approximately 30% year-on-year. In the first quarter of 2011, import spending on software reached almost US$24 million. The top three IT products with the most impressive growth are laptops, mobile phones and televisions. Moreover, the demand for many electric commodities is expected to surge during the season change. The need for lighting exceeded his company’s supply that a large margin had to be imported. These factors provide substantial reasons that Vietnam is a booming market for investment in electronics and IT industry. “This year, to support the growing requirement for more effective technologies and machineries, we have received very encouraging feedback from international pavilions this year of their participation, which are Singapore Pavilion, Taiwan Pavilion, China Pavilion, Korea Pavilion and Thai Pavilion. Some of the top brands that visitors will find at the shows include HAAS, Growell, Henkel and Nachi-Fujikoshi, just to name a few. • Like no other trade fair, drupa presents the complete global range on offer: Whether global players or ambitious newcomers, providers from emerging countries or from industrial nations – they are all represented at drupa from 3 to 16 May 2012. The complete fairground with its 19 halls is transformed into the largest printing plant of the world during this time. Here, approximately 1,800 exhibitors from over 50 countries give proof of the versatility and innovation strength of their industry – regardless of whether it is all about newspapers & Co., packaging printing, commercial or functional printing. The dynamic development of the Chinese printing market is also reflected by the large number of participating exhibitors: With around 11,000 square metres, China’s participation has increased by almost 100 percent compared to 2008. As the No.1 printing and media exhibition in the world, drupa is regarded as the ideal platform interpreting the industry megatrends. „The future of printing lies very clearly in the areas of packaging, printed electronics (RFID) and digital print with personalisation“, says Dr. Markus Heering, Managing Director of the Association for Printing and Paper Technology in the VDMA. „Especially packaging printing will play an ever increasing role in the future.“ While traditional markets are close to saturation, the printing market in the emerging countries is developing very dynamically. In Asia, the volume has increased from 133 billion Euros to 168 billion Euros; in China alone it has doubled to 49 billion Euros. And these dynamics are not letting up. Market research institutes estimate that the printing volume in China will increase to 70 billion Euros by 2014. Cautious optimism is reflected by the printing and paper industry in the run-up to drupa 2012. Thus – once again – drupa comes at exactly the right time. Many innovative developments coupled with successful business ideas promise the printing industry exciting future perspectives. In contrast to the last drupa 2008, the suppliers of digital solutions have become even more important and thus clearly reflect the megatrend of digitisation. In the coming year, six halls will show everything concerning digital printing, workflow or web-to-print applications, to just name the most important examples. Companies such as Agfa, Canon, Kodak, Epson, Fujifilm, Hewlett-Packard, Konica Minolta, Ricoh, Screen and Xerox can be found in halls 4, 5, 8a, 8b, 9 and 10. A positive trend can also be seen in the field of post-production; the exhibitors have noticeably enlarged their presentation (e.g. Kolbus). Other important cornerstones of drupa 2012 are: Halls 1 and 2: Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG with its network partners (e.g. Polar-Mohr) Hall 3: Printing as well as materials and services (e.g. Leonhard Kurz, Sakurai ) Hall 6: PrintCity with manroland as well as other exhibitors (e.g. Wohlenberg) Halls 10 to 12: Paper processing and packaging supplies production (e.g. Bobst AG, Mitsubishi Paper, Comexi) Halls 12 to14: Printing post-production (e.g. Horizon, Müller Martini, CP Bourg) Halls 15 to 17: Printing machines and printing post-production (e.g. Cerrutti, Ferag AG, Goss, Koenig & Bauer AG, Körber PaperLink, Kolbus GmbH & Co. KG, Shanghai Electric, Windmöller & Hölscher KG) Please visit www.drupa.com for more information. • It is with great honor that YASN International has announced the launch of its newly-constructed Japanese language website for CIAACE. This version of the website has been recognized as one of the most important international channels through which to promote CIAACE and also spread the latest information about the auto after market from both the auto accessories and auto tuning industries in China. As a renowned trade show organizer specializing in auto accessories, YASN has made solid progress through its diligent efforts since first holding the CIAACE in 2005. Maintaining a Japanese language website is yet another sign that YASN is expanding internationally, and as a result, CIAACE will be advertised to more international buyers, exhibitors and auto-related business professionals. Japan, as one of the top three consumption markets in the auto after market in Asia, holds an important position within the industry. Since the Automobile Trading Company produced the Takuri in 1907, a 1.85 liter & petrol powered car, automobile production in Japan has experienced a number of developmental challenges and technological innovations, in addition to establishing itself as a reliable and trusted auto manufacturing hub across the world. Earlier today, the Japanese language website went live. The website content will correspond completely with that of the English language website for CIAACE. YASN is pleased to offer the convenience of allowing partners to read news and industry updates in their own language. Ultimately, the launch of the website will provide a better platform for communication and strengthen the relationships between Chinese and Japanese enterprises in the auto after market.
  • Yes! RechargExpo Southeast Asia 2011will once again be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 14-16. This year’s show will be held at the Jakarta International Event and Exhibition Center (“JITEC”). JITEC is a new venue, centrally located in the heart of Jakarta, adjacent to Jakarta’s largest computer center where clients come from all over in search of computer and printer supplies. Often said the second time is a charm, RechargExpo Southeast Asia 2011 is sure to charm its exhibitors and visitors for the second year in a row. Consider these hard facts: Indonesia, inhabited by 237 million people, is the 4th most populous country on the globe. With a GDP of USD$700 billion, its untapped business growth potential is astounding. This population base, together with its fast-paced growth, have set the foundation of enormous potential for your business. This region in Southeast Asia, unlike China and India which are heavily studied by countless marketing experts, has not yet received the expected media exposure. It does, however, offer a growth rate far faster than one would expect. Your business’ future lies here—do not neglect the power of an emerging economy and its correspondent emerging opportunities! Indonesia - the new economic shining STAR! According to a World Bank report, "Global Development Horizons 2011—Multipolarity: The New Global Economy," "The world economy is in the midst of a transformative change. One of the most visible outcomes of this transformation is the rise of a number of dynamic emerging market countries to the helm of the global economy. It is likely that, by 2025, emerging economies—such as Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, and the Russian Federation—will be major contributors to global growth, alongside the advanced economies. As they pursue growth opportunities abroad and encouraged by improved policies at home, corporations based in emerging markets are playing an increasingly prominent role in global business and cross-border investment" “The fast rise of emerging economies has driven a shift whereby the centers of economic growth are distributed across developed and developing economies—it’s a truly multi-polar world,” said Justin Yifu Lin, the World Bank’s chief economist. Indonesia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) has predicted that the national economy could grow 7 percent in 2011, higher than the government’s expectation of 6 -6.5 percent. Additionally, The Jakarta Post recently adds the following: "Facts show that Indonesia was one of the few that continued to make positive growth in the past few years, including during the last global financial turbulence (2008). A combination of Indonesia’s positive GDP growth, improving investment climate, stable macro-economic policies and domestic political stability have made Indonesia a very attractive investment destination for foreign investors. With the total GDP of around US$700 billion, Indonesia is also the largest economy in Southeast Asia and in that regard plays an active role in shaping the agenda within the regional frameworks such as ASEAN, ASEAN+3, ARF, East Asia Summit and APEC. Better still, Indonesia is now a member of the G-20 that has become the prime-mover for international economic cooperation. This is clear evidence of the international recognition of our rising economic power." • More than 300 users connected to a rogue wireless network at the Infosecurity Europe exhibition in a live experiment by CryptoCard. On its stand, managing director EMEA Jason Hart set up a wireless network named ’Free Infosec WiFi’ that was open for two hours on the first two days of the show. Presenting the results, he revealed that 143 people had connected on the first day and 162 had connected on the second day. Speaking to SC Magazine on the 305 people who had willingly connected to this network, Hart said: “These are infosecurity people connecting to the unsecured network and using the freely available Cain software with a £30 network, we were able to see their name, IP address and Mac address and could have taken their credentials if they tried to use applications or the internet while connected. “There is no way of knowing that this is a rogue network as users assume it is free and use it, what is a real concern is that if you go on YouTube you can find videos of how to set these networks up. ” In a live demonstration of the smartphone hacking experiment conducted on SC Magazine online news editor Dan Raywood, Hart changed the name of the rogue network to ’BT Openzone free’, which Apple iPhones automatically connected to, demonstrating how simple it is to collect credentials. Also this week, CryptoCard launched the Blackshield Cloud, an authentication-as-a-service offering to replicate an onsite authentication server. It said that Blackshield Cloud allows enterprises to protect any point of access where a password is currently used and allows all access to be secured from a single point of control. Neil Hollister, chairman and CEO of CryptoCard, said: “The Blackshield suite is the technical fulfilment of our vision of making strong authentication a commodity and represents a true paradigm shift for authentication. “The rules of the game have changed in the past couple of years and it’s no longer a question of whether strong authentication is needed, but rather what’s the best way of deploying it. The Blackshield suite takes strong authentication out of the niche and into the mainstream. ”
  • Security vendor ViaSat has hit back at claims made at Infosecurity Europe by the deputy information commissioner that its findings were incorrect. Asked about results from a Freedom of Information (FoI) Act request by ViaSat, the deputy information commissioner David Smith said that the findings that were reported were ’quite inaccurate’, as while the report said that the figures were from April 2010, he believed them to be from November 2007. The figures are likely breaches of the Data Protection Act received between 6th April 2010, when monetary penalties were introduced by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and 22nd March 2011. The breakdown, as seen by SC Magazine, showed that ’lenders’, local government and health were the largest offenders in the time space, with 971 cases reported (lenders with 401, local government with 347 and health with 217). The FoI Act request asked specifically for information regarding the number of data breaches, while the ICO used the words ’breaches of the Data Protection Act’ and not data compliance issues. Chris McIntosh, CEO of ViaSat UK, said: “First of all I am disappointed in the response of the ICO today. The figure of 2, 565 was given to us by the ICO in direct response to a FoI request on the number of data breaches reported since 6th April 2010 and was treated in good faith. Subsequently the ICO has made comment that this figure was inaccurate. “If it was, this was down to miscommunication from the ICO. Our request was clear in that we wanted information on the number of data breaches. Even if you look at the revised figures the ICO has released it is still clear that that monetary penalties have been enforced in less than one per cent of the data losses it has dealt with. Of those, none have come near the maximum and so far the penalties, as with the ICO’s actions and undertakings as a whole, have focused on the public sector whilst leaving the private sector relatively unscathed. “The ICO is fond of saying that ’you have to be selective to be effective’ but by being too selective all that happens is that organisations, especially in the private sector, can begin to view the threat of a penalty or an undertaking as something that is so unlikely as to be beneath notice. For example, organisations could easily look at the £60, 000 penalty meted out to A4e, its size compared to the company’s £145 million turnover, its rarity and the fact that A4e is still receiving plenty of business, from the government no less, and feel that the risk of ICO action is one they are prepared to take. “The ICO is right to push for more powers and we fervently hope it can get them. However, it would be nice to see those it has exercised a little more. ”
